Chess boards are in huge demand because of lockdown: it took us more than two weeks to obtain one recently! Computers, nowadays, have advanced to the point that a human grandmaster simply could not beat the best machine, and there are a range of new artificial intelligence programmes, including one called AlphaZero. Chris Berrow has been speaking to Natasha Regan, who’s a Woman International Master at chess (WIM), has represented England… and co-authored a book called Game Changer… which tells the story of an algorithm that can learn to play chess (and other games) to an incredible level...
