New research published this week has turned what we know about Alzheimer’s disease progression on its head. Instead of the disease gradually spreading through the brain causing symptoms to get worse, the study found progression relied more on how quickly the number of disease-associated proteins increased in individual brain regions. Using data from human brains, the results also reveal neurons are pretty hardy at preventing this increase from happening, suggesting if we can improve their ability further, we may be able to slow down disease progression, as Julia Ravey heard from Cambridge University's Georg Meisl...
